Kara Chocolates Factory Tour

Welcome to Our Factory

If you were standing in our factory right now you'd be smelling the wonderful aroma of the finest Belgian and other chocolates available. The aroma is overpowering and delicious. Your mouth would be watering and you'd be asking where you can obtain chocolates immediately. We don't know how to provide that sensation on the world wide web so we'll just tell you about our chocolate factory and our family of employees.

Europe didn't know about chocolate until circa 1492 when Christopher Columbus returned to Spain. He brought some dark beans that looked like almonds.

In 1519, the Spanish explorer Hernando Cortez found the Aztec Indians using cocoa beans in the preparation of the royal drink of the realm, "chocolatl", meaning warm liquid. Emperor Montezuma, who reportedly drank 50 or more portions daily, served chocolatl to his Spanish guests in great golden goblets, treating it like a food for the Gods.

The early versions of chocolate did not taste like today's chocolate. It tasted bitter and was not well processed. It has taken many centuries of trial and error to perfect the chocolate making process that allows us to taste the rich, smooth chocolate we now enjoy.

At Kara we continue to use proven techniques from centuries ago and we also use modern techniques that improve the quality of our chocolates.

We still use copper kettles to heat our chocolate because they distribute the heat evenly. We always heat the chocolate three times to ensure it has a perfect consistency. We do whatever it takes to make sure the chocolate we send to you is the finest available in the world today.

Take a look at our online catalog and know that your chocolate will be delivered fresh. We ship UPS Overnight and pack our chocolates in dry ice from April 1 until September 30 so your chocolates will taste perfect.
